Your first hour

  1. Look around. Walk your residence and the nearest city. Find a vendor and see what things cost.
  2. Check your pockets. Open your inventory: hands, pockets and backpack.
  3. Find a ship. Ask in chat who's flying. Crews are always short a helm or a tactical officer.
  4. Take a station. Sit at an open console. You learn by doing: skills go up as you use them.

Capturing a starship

Capturing works entirely through the game, no commands needed.

  1. Drop her shields. Shoot down the shield facing toward you.
  2. Beam over. Select her on your Transporter console and ENERGIZE with your boarding party on the pad, or tell the transporter room to beam the boarding party over.
  3. Take the bridge. Fight your way through her defenders to her bridge.
  4. Claim her. Use her Ship Computer: Starship Database › Current Assignment, then 1.
Defenders fight back and may call reinforcements. Bring enough people.

Towing a derelict to SpaceDock

  1. Lock on. Lock the derelict with the tractor beam (Ship Operations), or tell your helm "tow the derelict to the nearest SpaceDock".
  2. Bring her in. Fly to a SpaceDock with the derelict in tow.
  3. Rebuild. At the SpaceDock, use the Starship Construction Console and click INITIALIZE.

Giving orders to your crew

No player at a station? Talk to the crew. Tell your helm a destination, or your transporter room to beam a party over. Clear, short orders work best.
